A warm welcome to Ightham Primary School

Welcome to Ightham Primary School. I am Sue Earl, Headteacher, and it is a privilege to lead a small, caring school where every child belongs.

Our one‑form‑entry school welcomes boys and girls aged 4–11 and can admit up to 210 children. We are proud of a learning environment that combines high expectations with warmth and belonging. At Ightham we nurture curiosity, champion kindness and equip children with the knowledge and habits they need to flourish — academically, socially and emotionally.

What makes our school special

• A strong community feel: small classes and close partnerships with families mean staff know every child well and can personalise support. Our school values — Respect, Aspiration, Honesty, Tolerance, Caring, and R esponsibility, — shape daily life and behaviour.
• Excellent outdoor learning: we are set in one of Kent’s larger woodland primary sites with three playgrounds, a designated gardening area and Forest School provision. These spaces are used daily to develop resilience, problem‑solving and practical skills.
• Purpose‑built Early Years: our EYFS outdoor area (opened summer 2025) gives our youngest children an exceptional start, combining play and structured learning to build strong foundations.
• Enrichment and experiences: as part of The Pioneer Academy since February 2025, we subscribe to the Pioneer Passport so every child accesses memorable experiences — from farm visits to attending sporting events — that broaden horizons and inspire learning.
• Practical facilities: seven classrooms, an ICT suite, library and a hall with fixed apparatus support a broad, balanced curriculum. We are also developing our eco‑work and are proud to have Maple, our school dog, who supports wellbeing and reading activities.

Our approach to learning
We put excellent classroom teaching first. Teachers plan a coherent curriculum that builds knowledge over time, uses precise vocabulary and gives children regular opportunities to practise and remember essential skills. Inclusion is central: we aim for universal high‑quality teaching while providing the targeted support children need to succeed.

Everyday expectations
Children are safe, happy and ready to learn. Our core school hours are 8:50am–3:20pm (32.5 hours per week). We expect smart presentation, positive conduct and active engagement — and we celebrate effort and achievement every week.
