How we created an animated movie

Using Lego pieces we have created a stop frame animation. We are learning to use the software. With our newly acquired skills we hope to create more curriculum based movies and presentations. This one is just for fun and is a Star Wars movie.

First we created a storyboard

Then we found our cast and created the scenery

We got together the equipment needed to shoot the movie

Making the movie

We used two programs to create the presentation: 2Animate to record the stop frame animation and 2Create to put together our movie and add narration.

2Animate

The webcam is connected to the laptop and selected in 2Animate. For each scene between 10 and 20 frames are recorded.  The characters are moved a small amount between each frame. As each shot is recorded a mini preview shows how our movie is coming along. Each scene only lasts a few seconds! If we don’t like any shots these can easily be removed. When we have completed the scene the movie is saved as an animated gif file.

2Create

Here we created our presentation. It matches our storyboard. Each page includes our created animation, a text box and a link to take us to the next scene in the movie. For each scene 2Create allows us to record sound. Using the laptops inbuilt microphone we recorded narration for each scene.

The movie can now be saved and exported as a flash movie file for everyone to see.
